From Cary Court we can arrange to collect guests from either the Railway Coach Stations but only by prior but insist on twenty four hours note of such requirements .Alternatively there are very good taxi services at local council controlled fares from both locations by local firms. The company we use being Torbay Cabs on 01803292292.
There are many regular ‘bus services to and from other destinations including Exeter, Newton Abbott, Paignton and Brixham, with onward connection to areas further afield.
Torquay Town centre is about five minutes away by foot where tare is a stage coach office and Tourist information office.
Should guest have special dietary needs they should advise the accommodation providers of their needs at the time of booking or during the check-in procedure.
We do not discriminate between guests though visitors should be aware that Cary Court is a Period Property, occupies a sloping site, has many steps and self closing doors through out. There are many “spiky” plants in the garden that may cause injury. There is an out door pool and pond, boardwalks and decking that may be hazardous to the unwary and or Children.
Arrival and Parking Facilities
Cary Court has on site parking for 8-10 vehicles, supplemented by unrestricted on street parking. Parking spaces cannot be reserved. If available spaces will be provided for those who are mobility challenged closer to the main entrance. Physically impaired guests maybe dropped off at the main entrance to the property. There are no speed bumps or barriers. We do not allow pets of any kind except guide dogs for the blind. We expect visitors to advise us of any disability they may have so that we are able to look after them and advise accordingly. There are two large signs at the entrance to the property displaying the name, telephone number, web site and email addresses should they be required.
There is a push button bell at the front door to the property. We offer “Porterage to all guests whether they are able bodied or not. There are outside security lights that automatically turn on and off at night to illuminate access to the guest house. There are three wide steps up to the main Entrance door and internal porch a further step from the internal porch to the Reception Hall.
Main Entrance a Reception area.
There is one main Entrance to the Reception area from the driveway via the internal porch as described above. The Reception area is level, there are doors to the Dining and Guest Lounge areas and stair to the first floor. A door from the rear of the Reception area leads past the ground floor Cloakroom to the Ground floor bedrooms. There is seating to the Reception area. There are pens and paper available to the hard of hearing but no loop system. All guests are welcomed to the Guest House with a familiarisation tour of the common areas including the garden and pool areas. The Reception area is well illuminated with natural light, a large chandelier as well as wall lights. There is additional lighting behind the Reception counter to the office. There is no background music playing nor are there any glass partitions between the guest and office sides of the counter. The office is available during the day and early evening. There are call bells for staff at all other times.
Public Areas - (general Information)
There are no lifts at Cary Court. There is a main stair case with a hand rail with seventeen treads to the first floor. An enclosed stair down to the exercise room with nine treads. From the guest Lounge there are two steps down to the garden room with level access from there to the Verandah. There are five steps down from the Verandah to the Garden and pool areas. There are self closing fire doors throughout the building. Guests have access to the Lower Ground floor, Ground floor and first floors. All floor coverings are to close cover with the exception of the Garden room where there is a rug. All bathroom floors are hard ceramic tiled. There is a cloakroom to the ground floor for guest use all bathrooms and the cloakroom have conventional W.C.s and wash hand basins. All Bathrooms are fitted with step in Shower cubicles. We do not provide nappy changing facilities. We do not take children under the age of ten years.
Dining Area.
The dining room is on the ground floor. There are usually seven tables, mostly for two people. The management can add further tables for additional guests or tables can be moved by the management to suit larger groups. Lighting is uniform with strategically place standard lamps as well as side lamps and wall lights. There is waiter service for hot beverages and main courses and a self service buffet for juices and cereals and yoghurts. Crockery and cutlery are china and stainless steel respectively. Menus are laminated half A4 sheets supplemented by a talking menu from the waiter. Special dietary requirements can only be catered for by prior arrangement.
Laundry
There are no laundry facilities at the Guest House.
Shop
There is no shop at the Guest House.
Treatment rooms.
There are no treatment rooms at the Guest House. Guests who wish to use the exercise room or pool are advised to read the notices published in the bedroom browsers with regard to availability times and safety as well as the notices posted near to the respective facility. Guests are advised to consult with a qualified Doctor before using these facilities or taking strenuous exercise.
Pool
There is no life guard on duty. Guests are advised to read the notices published in the bedroom browsers as well as those posted close to the facility. There is and emergency bell close to the pool.
Garden
Guests are welcome to use the Veranda and garden, but are reminded the wooden surfaces are very slippery when wet, there are many steps, water hazards as well as exotic trees and plants which may be “spiky” and can cause injury.
Conference rooms, club rooms , entertainment
There are no such facilities at the guest house.
BYO Bar
A B.Y.O. bar is provided for guests convenience and is situated in the Garden Room. A servery, chiller cabinet are provided as well as an ice machine and glassware. Guests are requested not to take glassware out of the garden room to the Garden. Plastic ware is available for garden use.
Self catering kitchens, caravan parks, touring facilities, boats, other attractions or displays are not available at the guest house
Additional information
We cater for the able bodied at Cary Court Guest House. We are pleased to welcome those with physical challenges. We cannot guess anybody’s physical condition and whilst we try to cater for all at all times, if a guest has a physical disability we believe it is their responsibility to draw that disability to our attention so that we are better able to help them enjoy their stay with us.
